Trip to the cinema

Last week the children from the Wise Oaks classroom and the Clever Acorns classroom were invited to the Eye Cinema for a special sensory screening of the movie Smallfoot. We got the bus from Doughiska Road and before the movie, the boys in the Wise Oaks went to the pet shop to look at all of the interesting animals there. They even got to pet the little rabbits! The boys really enjoyed the movie and were learned all about the importance of having new ideas and being a good member of society.

Dina Schools

We are learning about good behaviour and how it helps us to learn everyday. We are learning the Show Me Five rules - looking eyes, listening ears, hands still, feet still and a quiet mouth. We know that by following these rules, we will be able to learn really well in Senior Infants.

Busy at Work

We love to work hard and play hard in our classroom.  In the mornings, we do structured play and it helps us to learn social skills, as well as problem solving. After we play, we continue to learn by working hard at our tabletop activities,  like handwriting and maths! We love the mix of fun and hard work in our classroom!

Buddy Bench

We love using the new buddy bench on our yard! When we are alone or have nobody to play with, we can sit on the buddy bench and other children invite us to play with them. If there are a few of us on the bench, sometimes we play together!

Dina Schools

Every week in our class, we have very special visitors in our classroom. Wally comes to visit the children and often brings another friend with him, to teach us about social skills and good behaviour. This week, Wally and Dina, the principal of Dina Schools, came to our classroom to teach us about how to use a quiet hand. We practised using quiet hands and will work really hard over the next few weeks to perfect this skill!

Wally & Tiny Turtle

Wally brought a friend with him to our school today - Tiny Turtle! He's been teaching us all about how to keep calm when we get frustrated. He teaches us that we should take 3 deep breaths and imagine our happy place when we take some time out in our shell!

Maths Week 2015

This week we have been celebrating national Maths Week in our class by taking part in lots of fun maths games and activities. On Monday, we did a Maths Trail around our school and classroom. We had to investigate and record answers to questions, such as 'How many legs are on one of the chairs in the classroom?', 'What colours are on the notice board outside the classroom?' and 'Find a shape in the classroom and draw it.' Look at the children counting the legs on the chair and observing and recording the colours on the notice board outside our classroom...

And here the children have found lots of shapes around the classroom in everyday objects, such as a circular clock, an oval shaped balloon, a rectangular sign and a square letter tile...

On Wednesday some of the mums and dad came to our classroom to play Maths for Fun games with the children. The boys and girls love to use their maths skills in a fun way!
