Maths Week 2015

This week we have been celebrating national Maths Week in our class by taking part in lots of fun maths games and activities. On Monday, we did a Maths Trail around our school and classroom. We had to investigate and record answers to questions, such as 'How many legs are on one of the chairs in the classroom?', 'What colours are on the notice board outside the classroom?' and 'Find a shape in the classroom and draw it.' Look at the children counting the legs on the chair and observing and recording the colours on the notice board outside our classroom...

And here the children have found lots of shapes around the classroom in everyday objects, such as a circular clock, an oval shaped balloon, a rectangular sign and a square letter tile...

On Wednesday some of the mums and dad came to our classroom to play Maths for Fun games with the children. The boys and girls love to use their maths skills in a fun way!

Playground Fun

In our class this week, we had a special visitor, Sean the builder. Sean was busy putting in a speaker system in our classroom, to help us all to hear each other better. Our class had to leave our classroom while Sean was installing the new system, so we went to the playground! We developed our gross and fine motor skills, as well as our social skills! It is fantastic having such an amazing playground so close to our lovely school!

Our School Library

We are so lucky to have such a fantastic library in our school. All of the boys and girls in our class get to take a book home each week from the library. Look at how happy we are to be bringing home our first book from the library this year!

Active learning

In Junior Infants we are very busy doing lots of active learning! We have been developing our fine motor skills by doing some manipulative activities like cutting, drawing, building using blocks, measuring in the sand area, using play dough, etc.

We are also developing our imaginations and our skills of co-operation and conversation by engaging in collaborative activities, such as jigsaws, role-play and playing in small world areas.

Dina School

We had 2 very special visitors in our classroom today - Wally and Dina from Dina Schools! We learned that Dina is the principal of Dina Schools and she wanted to see how well we knew the golden rules of our school. We showed how good we are at showing five and using a quiet hand. We are looking forward to Wally and Dina's weekly visits to Múinteoir Ailish's classroom!
